We're exploring Kreng Jai, one of those Thai words with no clean English translation. Sometimes it's politeness. Sometimes it's respect. Sometimes it's just complicated.
Thai people use it when they don't want to inconvenience someone, ask for too much, create an obligation, or make another person uncomfortable.
In this session, we'll explore:
-Is kreng jai simply being polite?
-Why doesn't spending money make kreng jai go away?
-Does your culture have something similar?
You'll leave with:
-Useful Thai phrases for accepting, declining, and asking politely
-A better sense of what Thai people really mean (and don't say)
-New friends, both local and international
