Places on Todo.Today
Places represent the physical locations where events happen.
Todo.Today uses Google Maps as the source of truth for places, helping maintain a consistent database of venues and locations across the platform.
A place can be a Yoga studio, Café, Coworking space, Retreat center, Restaurant, Hotel, Beach, Public location, Community venue.
How Places Are Created
When a creator submits an event, they select where the event takes place. The system first searches the Todo.Today places database. If the place already exists, the existing place is used.
If the place does not exist, Todo.Today searches Google Maps and creates a new place using the Google Place information.
Place Pages
Every place automatically receives its own page on Todo.Today that displays:
- Place information
- Location details + Link to Google Maps
- Upcoming events taking place there
Place pages only display upcoming events (past events are not shown).
The Purpose of Place Pages
Place pages exist primarily to organize events by location.
They help explorers discover what is happening at a specific venue and help prevent duplicate venue records across the platform.
Place pages are system-generated and are not designed to build followers or communities.
For this reason, users cannot follow place pages.
Claiming a Place
Venue owners and authorized representatives can claim a place.
The claim process connects a place to a Creator Channel. The Creator Channel becomes the official public representation of the venue on Todo.Today. Visitors are no longer shown the system-generated place page. Instead, all visits to that place are automatically redirected to the associated Creator Channel.
